A+ Revenue Cycle Training provides insider knowledge to help you ace your exam!

The CPC® exam is a 100 question, multiple choice test that assesses your knowledge of 17 key coding areas. You will prove that you can properly apply codes from the CPT®, HCPCS Level-II, and ICD-10-CM code sets to a variety of coding scenarios and can utilize coding guidelines appropriately. The exam is demanding, but not impossible if you have taken a CPC® training course. All of our instructors have taken at least one AAPC exam and know the best test-taking strategies to increase your success!

Classes start November 1, 2025! Fill out the form below to be notified as soon as enrollment begins:

What to Expect

You will have 4 hours to answer 100 questions; 90 multiple choice scenarios and 10 realistic medical chart notes. The test is open coding-book, meaning you can consult your coding manuals during the exam, but not your textbooks, workbooks, personal notes or study guides. A passing grade is 70% or higher.

How to Take the Exam

One exam voucher is provided to you as part of the CPC® Training Course, and additional vouchers can be purchased at the time of enrollment. You will receive the digital voucher in your AAPC member account and can schedule your exam through the AAPC website. A+ Revenue Cycle Training recommends waiting to schedule your exam until your training course is complete or nearly complete.

AAPC exams are proctored at many in-person professional testing centers throughout the country. A+ Revenue Cycle Training highly recommends taking the exam at a testing center, as these facilities are specifically designed to be quiet, comfortable and distraction-free. A proctor can assist you with any technical difficulties you may have, and you are not required to provide any equipment of your own.

If you prefer, you can take the exam online in the comfort of your home using the Meazure Learning platform. You will be required to provide your own computer, speakers, microphone, high-speed internet connection, and a webcam that can be positioned to show your upper body, keyboard, and at least 10-12 inches around you at all times. Your proctor may also ask you to turn the webcam to show the entire room before you begin your exam.

You must have a government-issued ID card that matches your AAPC membership to take the exam either in-person or online. Temporary or printed IDs will not be accepted. Expired IDs will be accepted at the testing center’s or proctor’s discretion.

Required Materials

You will be expected to use your coding manuals, so don’t forget to bring them if you purchased physical books! Only eBooks will be provided by the testing center, if you select eBooks during scheduling. You may use books from the current year or the prior year, if your training course overlaps 2 different years (2025-2026). Your instructor will provide you with any pertinent code updates that may affect your exam, if you are using the prior year’s books.

The physical coding manuals contain areas for handwritten notes. It is acceptable for you to write notes in these areas, or small notes in the margins. It is not acceptable to paste in any additional material or include large sections of written notes. Altering pages in any way to include alternative or additional material is not allowed. Books tabs are acceptable so long as they don’t add supplemental information. If you’re unsure if your print copies are acceptable, please check with your instructor.
